19th century drop dial wall clock of small size with rare alarm mechanism

An extremely rare flame mahogany eight day fusee movement MINIATURE drop dial wall clock with alarm dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. Having a dial of just 7.5" in diameter with the total diameter of the hood being only 10", the whole clock measures 14.5" from top to bottom and the width of the trunk is 7". This clock is over 100 years old and is offered for sale in UNRESTORED condition and comes with all the small imperfections consistent with it's age. Not in bad condition considering it's age there are slight shrinkage cracks down the sides of the trunk, an old repair to the mahogany dial surround by the hinge, a small piece of veneer missing from the bottom of the trunk and the knob is missing from the bottom door. The movement is grubby but complete and working with the dial having probably been re-painted some years ago. Click on image for more pictures A most incredible and quite unique 19th century Anglo/French long case clock signed at the base of the dial PRIMAVESI BROS.CLOCKMAKERS BOURNEMOUTH who are recorded as working in Christchurch Road at the end of the 19th century. The carved oak case made in provincial France being of typical comptoise construction made up of three separate sections and with full opening doors. the detail and quality of the carving is truly outstanding. The movement, also made in France again is of comptoise design with upside down verge escapement and fold up pendulum, of eight day duration with centre sweep date and moon phase within the arch, both the sweep date and moon phase are complete and working. There can be no doubt that the Primavesi brothers imported the case and movement from France as a special order and added the brass and silvered dial in the English taste. Although the case is of French construction it bears no resemblance to the standard comptoise or morbier clock and was obviously a serious attempt to make a case in the English taste, the result rather rustic and very charming. The movement was also made for the English market and does not have the two minute past repeat strike which is common in all French provincial long case clocks but instead just counts out the hours and strikes one at the half. Offered with this clock is an absolute cast iron money back guarantee that it is NOT A LATTER DAY BAD MARRIAGE but a most rare and unique long case clock case and movement imported from France in the 19th century to which the Bournemouth clockmakers added their own dial. There are no spare holes actual or filled in either movement or dial plate and the motion work for both the sweep date and phase of the moon is complete and original. See pictures.

18TH CENTURY LONGCASE CLOCK BY JOHN TAYLOR LONDON
A truly magnificent LONDON MAHOGANY longcase clock dating from around the year 1780. This fine example of late 18th century clockmaking is totally honest, untouched and unrestored in both case and movement. It is WITHOUT DOUBT original from the very top of the pagoda to the bottom of the double plinth base. Wonderful rich flame mahogany retaining it's original finish, the trunk with quarter columns having brass stringing and brass capitals as indeed have the pillars to the hood. The fine quality five pillar eight day movement with brass and silvered dial (again unrestored and totally original) showing seconds and date with strike / silent in the arch. Signed by the maker JOHN TAYLOR LONDON around the top of the arch. It comes with what appear to be it's original brass bound weights and pendulum but is lacking the three finials which would have adorned the top of the hood. All in all a most wonderful ORIGINAL London longcase clock the like of which is seldom found these days. Height a majestic 7'-10.3/4"
